Our offices are closed today for our staff to both honour and reflect upon the innocent lives lost and the generational trauma that continues to impact Indigenous peoples as a result of the ...Residential School System in Canada. The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is an important time to learn about and reflect on our tragic history and the ongoing impacts of residential schools as a part of the reconciliation process. #orangeshirtday #NDTR

1. How did you get started in the planning industry?
I took architecture courses because of my passion for design during my undergrad at the University of Toronto, and one of my professors sparked my interest in planning because of his love for urbanism, culture, and community. I love how planning allows me to envision sites on a grand scale while using my design-oriented mindset.
2. What is the biggest challenge of working in your sector?
Navigating multiple jurisdictions and their unique ways of doing things is a constant challenge. Understanding each municipality's intricacies, policies, and political context takes time. As a planner, I play a crucial role in helping clients and project teams navigate these complexities. It's about learning the nuances, spending time in different places, staying informed, and becoming a part of the community somehow, even without living there. Building familiarity with the different areas I work in is invaluable. Guiding clients through the project process and being a trusted advisor is extremely rewarding.
3. What is your favorite thing about working at B&A?
Getting the opportunity to build the Edmonton studio provided me with the perfect platform for unleashing creativity without limits. There's no confining box; we are encouraged to tackle diverse projects and bring our unique expertise to the table. Whether it's modern neighbourhood design, housing initiatives, or introducing new groundbreaking ideas, B&A fosters an environment where individuals can create something remarkable from nothing. I've always cherished being a part of B&A because we have the freedom to explore, innovate, and make a positive impact in our communities.
4. What’s your favourite pastime/hobby?
I love gardening and being outdoors all summer. There's something magical about getting my hands in the earth, nurturing plants, and watching them flourish.
