ABOUT THE INDIGENOUS OPPORTUNITY

We are seeking a Junior to Intermediate Planner to provide land use planning expertise in support of our Land Use Monitoring Program. Since 2016, B&A has supported the development and implementation of comprehensive and customized land use monitoring programs for some of Canada’s largest midstream energy companies to support stakeholder collaboration, damage prevention, integrity management and class monitoring objectives throughout all stages of the land use planning and development process.

This position will support the Land Use Monitoring Program in Northern British Columbia with the potential to support other programs currently managed by B&A. Initially, this is a temporary term contract position available to a qualified Indigenous Person.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Junior to Intermediate Planner with B&A, you will have the unique opportunity to support your growth as a planning professional and gain experience in supporting B&A’s land use monitoring programs developed for some of Canada’s largest midstream energy companies. Working in collaboration with an inter-disciplinary team, you will provide program support with the following primary responsibilities:

  • Review a variety of planning and development applications (i.e. official community plans, subdivisions, zoning amendments, development permits etc.) and provide a summary and assessment of potential impacts on pipeline infrastructure.
  • Draft recommended planning policies regarding best practices for planning and development in proximity to pipeline infrastructure.
  • Correspond with provincial and local government planning departments regarding planning and development projects.
  • Coordinate and facilitate meetings as required with stakeholders.
  • Provide detailed record management and records of correspondence.
  • Draft information to be shared with multiple stakeholder groups regarding safe planning and development in proximity to pipelines.

ABOUT YOU

We are seeking a Junior to Intermediate Planner with knowledge of municipal governance structures, community planning and land development processes in British Columbia. Your demonstrated understanding of governance, planning and land development will enable you to advise and assist with the continued expansion of B&A’s customized planning services and solutions for our growing energy client sector base.

We are seeking a team member with the following qualities:

  • High School diploma
  • General interest in environmental studies, land use planning and land development
  • Post secondary education in Urban Planning or a related field.
  • 0-2 years of experience in community and land development planning.
  • Knowledge of municipal governance structures, land use planning and development processes
  • Familiarity with GIS and database systems is considered an asset
  • Proven interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills; ability to maintain professional working relationships and present ideas in a business-friendly manner
  • A thorough understanding of Microsoft Office 365 Suite, Adobe Suite and Microsoft SharePoint is required
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to team collaboration and client service is paramount.
  • Available for occasional travel and possess a Class 5 license.

As a Junior to Intermediate GIS Analyst, you will play an important role at B&A, advancing the continued development of our GIS and working closely with our team to create and manage a wide range of GIS applications. These applications support B&A’s planning work, helping users and clients more effectively visualize and position their project. The key accountabilities include:

  • Support records intake, spatial referencing, data entry and map generation processes and procedures
  • Develop high quality project mapping for use in project reports and web mapping applications
  • Assist in advancing web mapping capabilities
  • Support GIS integration and synergies within technical services area
  • Collaborate on the review, assessment and ongoing growth of B&A’s internal GIS and procedures

ABOUT YOU

We are seeking a dynamic and results-orientated professional who can execute a wide range of GIS services to meet project needs and requirements. You thrive in fast-paced environments where effective multi-tasking and prioritization is crucial to meeting tight deadlines and competing demands. Your strong interpersonal skills allow you to work seamlessly with internal project teams and clients.

We are seeking a team member with the following qualities:

  • High school graduate
  • General interest in environmental studies, geography, cartography and data science
  • Post secondary education in GIS or a related field.
  • 0 – 2 years of post secondary experience in GIS.
  • Desire to develop and implement best-practice GIS services for a broad range of audiences.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of GIS, data acquisition, research and architecture and spatialanalysis applications.
  • Knowledge of ArcGIS ESRI Suite of Tools, ArcGIS Pro, ArcMap, ArcGIS Online and the Spatial and Network Analyst extensions.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; able to effectively plan and organize while balancing multiple priorities in a team oriented environment.
  • Proven interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills; ability to maintain professional working relationships and present ideas in a business-friendly manner.
  • A thorough understanding of Microsoft Office 365 Suite and Microsoft SharePoint is required.
  • Knowledge of Power Automate, Sequel Server, Adobe Suite, Python, Java, HTML and other programming skills are considered assets to this position.
  • Proven ability to produce high quality, visually aesthetic maps focusing on essential cartographic principles and consistent with brand standards is required.
  • Available for occasional travel and possess a Class 5 license.
