Master Planned Transit Oriented Neighbourhood
B&A Planning Group successfully supported DOMAIN apartments in the preparation of an Outline Plan, Land Use Redesignation and Policy Amendment for their 80 acres of land within the southeast Community of Belmont, adjacent to the terminal LRT red line station. Belmont Station has been planned as a mid-rise, pedestrian-scale, transit-supportive, mixed-use neighbourhood. The area will be home to nearly 7000 future residents and approximately 50,000 sf of retail storefronts; offering shopping, entertainment, recreation and education within walking distance. At the heart of the neighbourhood is a series of public/ private park spaces, termed the Green Axis, that will connect pedestrians and cyclists to the LRT station area. The Park system offers three unique areas to recreate that becomes progressively more urban upon the approach to the Main Street Retail Area adjacent the LRT (featured above).
- Belmont Green Common Park: welcomes travellers from the adjacent suburbs with pathways, a traditional green lawn, and a nature playground abutting residential townhouse frontages;
- Belmont Square Park: a plaza with live/work spaces, spill out cafés and a public art installation;
- Belmont Plaza Park: a central park space that features markets, gardens, community functions, ample gathering spaces and seating. The area is encircled by a one-way public street couplet and retail/commercial spaces and a mix of uses in a vibrant, urban setting.
The conceptual visioning for the neighbourhood would not have been possible without partnership with Humphreys & Partners Urban Architecture and Scatliff+Miller+Murray’s Landscape Architecture team. Establishing collaborative teams with other consultants that excel in their field is key to B&A’s success in all planning endeavours.
